As a Skilled Mason on international construction projects, your primary role is the precise execution of masonry work to the highest quality and safety standards. You are expected to be an expert in working with various materials including brick, block, natural stone, and pre-cast concrete units. A key responsibility is accurately reading and interpreting blueprints and construction drawings to determine material requirements, dimensions, and structural specifications for walls, partitions, arches, and foundations.
Your daily tasks will include preparing the construction site, setting up essential equipment, and mixing mortar and grout to the correct consistency. You must be highly proficient in laying materials, ensuring all courses are plumb, level, and aligned with perfect joint thickness and finish. This often involves shaping and dressing materials using specialized tools, such as trowels, hammers, chisels, and power cutters. You will also be responsible for applying and spreading mortar on both horizontal and vertical surfaces, followed by the expert finishing of joints (e.g., pointing or tooling).
Safety is paramount; you must adhere strictly to all international and local site safety regulations, including working safely at heights on scaffolding or elevated platforms. You will be required to collaborate effectively with other skilled tradespeople, engineers, and site supervisors to coordinate work and troubleshoot any issues related to material handling or installation. Furthermore, maintaining all tools and equipment and performing quality checks on finished work to ensure structural integrity and aesthetic standards are met are ongoing requirements of this role.
