The Non-Skilled Mason, or Mason Helper, is an indispensable member of the construction team, providing essential physical and logistical support to the skilled Mason and bricklayers on site. This is a highly practical role, demanding strong physical fitness and a relentless commitment to work efficiency and site safety.
The core responsibility of this role is the preparation and continuous supply of materials. This involves the crucial task of accurately mixing mortar and concrete according to the Mason’s specifications, ensuring the correct consistency for the current work. The helper is responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting heavy materials, including bags of cement, sand, gravel, and large quantities of bricks, blocks, or stone, manually or with conveyance equipment, to the precise location where the skilled work is being performed.
Further duties include keeping the work area clean and organized, which is critical for safety and efficiency. This involves constantly clearing away excess mortar, broken materials, and general debris. The helper is also tasked with the diligent cleaning and maintenance of all masonry tools and equipment, such as trowels, mixers, and buckets, ensuring they are ready for immediate use.
