This is a crucial support position focused on assisting skilled ironworkers in preparing and installing steel reinforcement bars, or rebar, for concrete structures. The primary duties involve strenuous manual labor, including the safe and efficient lifting, carrying, and positioning of steel bars and mesh across the worksite as directed by the supervisor. Assistants will be responsible for preparing materials by cleaning rebar and sorting it according to size and specification. A key task is ensuring that the steel fixer always has the necessary materials and tools ready for continuous work, which includes fetching wire ties, spacers, and safety clips. You will actively assist the skilled team in the tying and binding of rebar intersections using pliers and simple tools to form stable cages, and you must maintain a consistent supply of materials to keep the work flow uninterrupted. Furthermore, the role requires strict adherence to all on-site safety rules, maintaining a clear and organized work area free of tripping hazards, and regularly performing general site cleanup. Ideal candidates must have excellent physical endurance, be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions, and have the willingness to learn basic steel-fixing techniques. Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to follow verbal instructions accurately are essential requirements for this position. No prior steel fixing experience is required, but experience in general construction labor is a definite advantage.
