Kuwait

Basic information

All foreign nationals seeking to work in Kuwait must first secure a job offer from a Kuwaiti employer, who acts as the visa sponsor. This employer initiates the process by applying to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour (or the relevant ministry for government jobs) for a Work Permit (No Objection Certificate or NOC). Once the NOC is issued, the employer sends it to the prospective employee along with the signed employment contract. This permit allows the applicant to begin the process outside Kuwait.

CheckList

Required documents

  • Passport: Must be valid for at least six months beyond your intended stay and have at least two blank visa pages.

  • Passport-style photos: Recent photos with a white background.

  • Employment contract: Signed offer letter and employment contract from your Kuwait employer.

  • Degree/diploma: A certified copy of your degree or professional certificate that relates to your job title.

  • Police clearance certificate: From your country of residence, proving you have no criminal record.

  • Medical report: Completed by a doctor from an approved Wafid medical clinic, covering required tests like HIV, hepatitis B, and C.

  • Work permit: Your Kuwait employer will initiate this process with the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development.

  • Completed visa application form: With any necessary reference numbers from your employer.

  • CV and Cover Letter: A concise cover letter and your updated CV are often required.

  • Professional licenses: For certain professions like doctors, nurses, or engineers, professional licenses are needed.

  • Experience letters: Letters from previous employers on company letterhead detailing your roles and dates.

Important steps

  • Secure a job offer: A Kuwait employer must sponsor your visa and initiate the work permit process.

  • Get documents attested: Your degree/diploma and potentially other documents like your employment contract need to be attested or legalized by the relevant authorities in your home country and the Kuwait Cultural Mission.

  • Get a medical check-up: Complete a medical exam at an approved clinic after you have the work permit and are preparing your application.

  • Submit your application: The employer will provide a work permit number. You can then submit your application through a visa service center or directly to the embassy.

Processing Time

Total approximate processing time is 30 to 45 working days (Time may vary depending on applicant’s profile and embassy actually processing time)
